Christmas Time

Hey Kids,

It is Christmas time. We only have two days of school left, and I wanted to remind all of you again that our party will begin Friday at 9:30, and pretty much last for the duration of the day. Please do not forget to bring a gift to exchange, and one for an animal.

I want to wish you joy, peace, and safety over the holidays. God bless you, and keep you.

Enjoy all the gifts of the season, and I don't mean just the ones under the tree. Take a minute to hug everyone in your family, and let them know they are loved, just as you are loved by them.

Happy birthday to Kylie, Sam and Frederick.

So much has happened since my last post. First of all, I am so happy to be in the new school with you. We will have Internet any time now, I hope.
Next, it is almost time for another break! We will have our party on the 19th. It will be a non-working day, although we may have a test or two that morning. For our gift giving please make sure you have a gift to participate in our gift exchange, and a gift to give to the animal shelter.
We are fortunate to have Mrs. Darby help us to make our Christmas party bright.
Don't forget you have your musical presentation this Sunday at 6:30. I need you to try to be in our new classroom by 6:20ish.
With all the craziness of the season and all the events in school it has been hard to get to everything, but I am sure you are not too sad about missing out. We will however have one more Math test lessons 56-60, and a WWII test of some sort. In Science we will continue to catch up, and review, and in Reading I think it would be fun to do a script.
If I don't get a chance to get on here again, thanks for such a wonderful year, and have yourself a merry little Christmas.

Veteran's Day

Hey guys I am sorry I am not there today. Lily is sick. I hope you are all behaving for our substitute. She will be leaving me a note on how well you treated her, and each other. I am sure you have all been on your best behavior. You are all great students. :)

For Social Studies today I want you to get in small groups of no more than 3. Since tomorrow is Veteran's day I wanted to make sure you knew why you got the day off school, and why you should take a moment to appreciate soldiers and veterans.
I want you to click on first site, then click on VA History "more..." Read the information, then write a short summary of the events. It should only be about one long paragraph. I only need one from each group, just make sure everyone participates. After you finish, choose another section from the first site or the second, and make a display, or writing a summary to share based on the information you found. You may also use the links to find more information. Mrs. Bias may have some small poster board left, but I want you to ask before you leave. Please let Mrs. Bias know that I will replace anything you use of hers. You are also welcome to the construction paper in our room. Your presentation can also be made on movie maker or power point. I will be expecting your work on Wednesday, so you may need to split up the work and each person in your group do one section if you run out of time today. I may give you more time on Wednesday to work on it before you present it to the class. If you finish you may play the games section. Also, please do not forget about your interview. I will be checking my e-mail, and the comments from this blog throughout the day. If you have any questions please write me. marsha43@gmail.com

Election

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032553#map

This is one of the many places you can check out the latest information. Almost every news channel on t.v will have up to date information on who wins each state. Keep in mind that I do not expect you to stay up and watch it all. You need to go to bed at your regular bedtime, but before you do make sure you have colored in as many states as you can. Most importantly make a prediction on the empty section at the bottom of the sheet with the map on it that I sent home with you today. The prediction must make sense with what states you have colored in so far. Remember to count up the electoral votes in each state. If it is blue those votes go to Obama, and if they are red they go to McCain. The candidate with the most electoral votes is ahead. What I want you to do is predict who will win based on the electoral college map that tells you what states normally vote Democratic or republican. For example, you will most likely already be in bed by the time Texas and California's results are in, but you know by the activity we did in class that TX is mostly likely going to be red, and California is going to be blue. If you have any questions e-mail me. marsha43@gmail.com

Dear Parents,

Just a friendly reminder that candy in most stores is 50% or more off right now. I would sincerely appreciate any candy or reward items you could send in. Over the course of they year I normally spend anywhere from 150.00 to 250.00 just on reward items. I do thank all of you for sending in items already. Please do not feel you must, but if you can it would really help me out.

Thank you

Propaganda

Here are two sites to help you remember the propaganda techniques. The first is the PowerPoint we went over in class. The second is just a list with definitions.

Halloween Field Trip

Thank you so much to all the parents who, despite the tardiness of my Halloween letter, are sending in items for the party.
I must apologize once again for the tardiness of this news, but I am excited to let you know that the representative from the Keith Albee contacted Jenny Bias yesterday. She told us she could do a tour tomorrow. As you know we have been researching local haunted locations. The Keith Albee has a haunted history, as Caitlin and Olivia well know. Jenny Bias and I thought it would be great if we could actually visit one of the places the students researched, and thankfully we got a bite yesterday. Tomorrow at about 10am we will, in our Halloween garb, walk to the Keith Albee, and take the haunted tour. It is very important that if you want your child to attend, the permission slip I sent home today must be turned in tomorrow morning by 9am.

Here is a site for some costume ideas, if you haven't already found one. There are also some helpful tips for parents. http://costumeideazone.com/

Down The Rabbit Hole

We will be reading Down the Rabbit Hole by Peter Abrahams starting October 20th. I am sure you are all going to love it. I am very excited! I love this book because it is a mystery, and because it is a series. You are hopefully going to love this book so much, that you will read the other "Falls" mysteries.
I am listing a few places you can purchase your book. Remember it is your responsibility to have the book by Monday, Oct. 20th. I would prefer you to have it sooner if possible.

You can buy the book at Empire, but I will be placing an order at Borders. If you would like you can order the book from either store. I suggest http://www.amazon.com/ for a possible used copy. Beware that ordering online may take more time, but it may cost less. If all else fails check the public libraries just remember that you will need to re-check out the book, plus the library should be able to order it for you.

Here are some sites that may help you in finding information for your project on the continent you chose. Please understand that everyone will be graded individually, as a group, and every person in the group will evaluate each other. All students will get to grade all other groups, so you have several grades for this project. Make sure to do your best.

The Prince and the Pauper: Free Online Study Guide and Homework Help - CliffsNotes

This study guide should help you to read the book. There are summaries and commentaries for every chapter. I know most of you are having a hard time with the language used, but I think with the help of this site you will understand more than you did before. I hope it helps. Please know that you are still expected to read each chapter to know the details of the story. This site is to be used after you have read the chapter to better understand.

Thank You to the Dawson Family for the wireless router.

subject:" Literature " - Google Book Search

Go to this site and choose a book you would like to read, starting next week. We will decide as a class what we will be reading, however I want input from everyone.

I am writing to thank everyone that brought in items for our sixth grade basket. The items purchased were perfect. I can't wait tot see the end result. Thank you again for helping to make this year's carnival successful.
I also want to thank all the parents that have continued to support my rewards philosophy by bringing in candy, and other various reward items. I sincerely appreciate all you do. Thank you.
